Bacalhau: a Portuguese Dish… from the North Atlantic – Ana Gallart

During the fifteenth century, Henry the Navigator encouraged sea exploration in an effort to help Portugal grow in power (Bucholz). Aside from boosting Portugal’s economy, this Age of Discovery, from the late fifteenth century to the early seventeenth century, introduced new elements, such as tomatoes and cinnamon, into Portuguese cuisine.
